Elena Law (Law Chi Yau)

Direct successor and curator of "Law Ching Bor Calligraphy," and head of Callimont.

She began studying calligraphy under her father at age six and is proficient in all five scripts — seal, clerical, regular, running, and cursive — drawing particular inspiration from Wang Xizhi's "Preface to the Orchid Pavilion."
She teaches calligraphy online to both children and adults, and organizes calligraphy exhibitions and commercial events.

Growing up with a father who loved calligraphy, I spent every Saturday afternoon learning alongside his students. I picked up my first brush at age six. I still remember my first exhibition piece — the character "Peace" in seal script on a half-sheet of four-foot xuan paper — which remains one of my most representative works. At fourteen I went abroad to study. My father designed a personal curriculum just for me, and my mother kept me supplied with the Four Treasures of the Study, so my calligraphy practice never missed a beat!

Beyond calligraphy, my father also had me memorize the first chapter of "The Great Learning" as a child. I didn't really understand it back then! But the words stayed with me, and their meaning became clear as I grew older. Today, this classic — hailed as "the gateway to virtue and the art of being human" — continues to shape how I work and how I cultivate myself. My favorite passage is:Things have their root and their branches; affairs have their end and their beginning. To know what is first and what is last will lead one near to the Way.That one line has served me well in building my career and driving innovation.

This calligraphy self-learning software was born of a mission: to carry on a legacy. Watching my father juggle the demands of being a school principal while never losing his passion for teaching calligraphy earned my deepest respect. When I considered the decades he has devoted to calligraphy research and his vision for innovation, I couldn't bear to see that treasure fade or risk being lost. To pass it on widely and for generations to come, it needed fresh thinking, new technology, and new ideas.

So this software carries forward my father's decades of research and teaching methods, adapted to modern technology and the pace of contemporary life. My own background as a Le Cordon Bleu-trained pastry chef and culinary instructor, combined with my experience teaching calligraphy online, shaped the concept at the core of this product. The course follows the first chapter of "The Great Learning," so learners absorb the wisdom of the classic while they learn calligraphy — two birds with one stone!

It is my hope that this new endeavor brings the blessings of China's time-honored culture and art to every learner.
